Tagalog

Translate Tagalog, with no signal at all.

Typed Tagalog translation and the camera both run on your iPhone, so a menu or a sign in Tagalog can be read in flight mode. Below are two real ones, printed, photographed and translated by the app, and left unedited.

Typing works with no signal

Download the Tagalog pack once, over hotel wifi, and typed translation runs on the phone from then on — as it does in all 58 languages.

The camera reads it on the phone

Your iPhone reads Tagalog from a photograph itself. Nothing is sent anywhere, and it works with the phone in flight mode.

Speech depends on your iPhone

Spoken translation uses Apple's own speech packs, which cover about half of these languages and differ from phone to phone — so the app tells you if it cannot hear Tagalog rather than failing while someone waits. How speech works.

Two real ones, printed and photographed

Both went through the app on an iPhone from pages we had printed, so the Tagalog is known rather than guessed. What came back is below it, unedited.

A railway station sign

Printed on it

  1. Pangunahing Istasyon
  2. Plataporma 3
  3. Mga tren papuntang paliparan
  4. Bumili ng tiket bago sumakay
  5. Labasan sa kanan

What the app gave back

  1. Main lstation
  2. Platform 3
  3. Trains to Airport
  4. Buy a ticket before riding
  5. Exit to the right

Read and translated on an iPhone, 1 September 2026, from a page we had printed — so the original is known rather than guessed. Nothing here is tidied up.

Nearly clean. "Pangunahing Istasyon" was read with a small l and came back as "Main lstation", but "Platform 3", the airport line and "Exit to the right" are all correct.

A warning notice

Printed on it

  1. Panganib
  2. Huwag hawakan ang mga kable
  3. Ilayo ang mga bata
  4. Tawagan ang manedyer kung may emerhensiya

What the app gave back

  1. Danger
  2. Do not touch wiring
  3. llayo the children
  4. Call the manager if there is
  5. emergency

Read and translated on an iPhone, 1 September 2026, from a page we had printed — so the original is known rather than guessed. Nothing here is tidied up.

A reading error cost a line here: the capital I of "Ilayo" was read as a small l, and "Ilayo ang mga bata" came back as "llayo the children", so the instruction to keep children away is missing. "Do not touch wiring" is right, and "Call the manager" came through split over two lines.

Questions

Does Tagalog camera translation work offline?

Yes. Your iPhone reads Tagalog from a photograph itself, so a scan works in flight mode and nothing is sent anywhere.

Does typed Tagalog translation work offline?

Yes. Download the Tagalog pack once, over wifi, and typing runs entirely on the phone from then on. That is true of all 58 languages.

How good is the Tagalog translation?

Good enough for menus, signs and tickets, and not for anything that matters legally or medically. The two examples on this page are unedited, mistakes included, so you can judge it yourself before you pay anything.

Can SofiLingo hear spoken Tagalog?

It depends on your iPhone. Spoken translation uses Apple’s own speech packs, which cover about half of the 58 languages and differ from phone to phone, so the app tells you before you start if it cannot hear Tagalog.
