Macedonian

Translate Macedonian, signal or no signal.

Typed Macedonian translation runs on your iPhone with nothing connected. The camera needs a signal: an iPhone cannot read the Macedonian script offline, so a scan taken without one is kept and translated when you are back online.

Typing works with no signal

Download the Macedonian pack once, over hotel wifi, and typed translation runs on the phone from then on — as it does in all 58 languages.

The camera needs a connection

An iPhone cannot read the Macedonian script offline at all. With a signal the photograph is read and translated; without one the scan is kept and translated the moment you are back online, so the sign is not lost.

Speech depends on your iPhone

Spoken translation uses Apple's own speech packs, which cover about half of these languages and differ from phone to phone — so the app tells you if it cannot hear Macedonian rather than failing while someone waits. How speech works.

Two real ones, printed and photographed

Both went through the app on an iPhone from pages we had printed, so the Macedonian is known rather than guessed. What came back is below it, unedited.

A railway station sign

Printed on it

  1. Централна станица
  2. Перон 3
  3. Возови до аеродромот
  4. Купете го билетот пред качување
  5. Излез десно

What the app gave back

  1. Central Station
  2. Platform 3
  3. Trains to the airport
  4. Buy the ticket before climbing
  5. Exit right

Read and translated on an iPhone, 1 September 2026, from a page we had printed — so the original is known rather than guessed. Nothing here is tidied up.

Every line right: "Перон 3" came back as "Platform 3", and "Exit right" is correct. "Buy the ticket before climbing" is a literal way of saying before boarding.

A museum placard

Printed on it

  1. Стариот мост
  2. Мостот е изграден во 1580 година.
  3. Беше разурнат во војната и обновен со оригиналните камења.
  4. Денес тоа е најпосетуваниот споменик во регионот.
  5. Дозволено е фотографирање без блиц.

What the app gave back

  1. The old bridge
  2. The bridge was built in 1580.
  3. Was ruined in the war and restored with
  4. the original stones.
  5. Today it is the most visited monument
  6. in the region.
  7. Blitz photos are allowed.

The history came through, but the last line turned around: "Дозволено е фотографирање без блиц" came back as "Blitz photos are allowed", which suggests flash photography is fine when the sign allows only photos without flash.

Questions

Does Macedonian camera translation work offline?

No, and no iPhone app can make it. The phone’s own text recognition cannot read the Macedonian script offline. SofiLingo keeps the photograph and translates it the moment you are back online, and typed Macedonian works offline in the meantime.

Does typed Macedonian translation work offline?

Yes. Download the Macedonian pack once, over wifi, and typing runs entirely on the phone from then on. That is true of all 58 languages.

How good is the Macedonian translation?

Good enough for menus, signs and tickets, and not for anything that matters legally or medically. The two examples on this page are unedited, mistakes included, so you can judge it yourself before you pay anything.

Can SofiLingo hear spoken Macedonian?

It depends on your iPhone. Spoken translation uses Apple’s own speech packs, which cover about half of the 58 languages and differ from phone to phone, so the app tells you before you start if it cannot hear Macedonian.

Take it with you
