Hungarian

Translate Hungarian, with no signal at all.

Typed Hungarian translation runs on your iPhone with nothing connected. The camera reads Hungarian on the phone too, and more accurately online, so it uses a signal when there is one. Below are two real scans, unedited.

Typing works with no signal

Download the Hungarian pack once, over hotel wifi, and typed translation runs on the phone from then on — as it does in all 58 languages.

The camera reads it better online

Your iPhone can read Hungarian on its own, and reads it more accurately with a connection — so it uses the connection when there is one and the phone when there is not.

Speech depends on your iPhone

Spoken translation uses Apple's own speech packs, which cover about half of these languages and differ from phone to phone — so the app tells you if it cannot hear Hungarian rather than failing while someone waits. How speech works.

Two real ones, printed and photographed

Both went through the app on an iPhone from pages we had printed, so the Hungarian is known rather than guessed. What came back is below it, unedited.

A warning notice

Printed on it

  1. Veszély
  2. Ne érintse meg a vezetékeket
  3. Tartsa távol a gyermekeket
  4. Vészhelyzetben hívja az üzletvezetőt

What the app gave back

  1. Danger
  2. Don't touch wires
  3. Keep children away
  4. In an emergency call the business manager

Read and translated on an iPhone, 1 September 2026, from a page we had printed — so the original is known rather than guessed. Nothing here is tidied up.

All four lines right. "Ne érintse meg a vezetékeket" came back as "Don't touch wires", and the manager became "the business manager", which still points you to the right person.

A museum placard

Printed on it

  1. A Régi Híd
  2. A hidat 1580-ban építették.
  3. A háborúban elpusztult, és az eredeti kövekből építették újjá.
  4. Ma ez a régió leglátogatottabb műemléke.
  5. A vaku nélküli fényképezés megengedett.

What the app gave back

  1. The old bridge
  2. The bridge was built in 1580.
  3. Destroyed in the war and the original
  4. they were rebuilt from stones.
  5. Today it is the most visited monument of the region.
  6. Vaku-free photography is allowed.

Read and translated on an iPhone, 1 September 2026, from a page we had printed — so the original is known rather than guessed. Nothing here is tidied up.

The history came through, though one sentence was split in reading and came back slightly reordered. The key word of the last line was left untranslated: "Vaku-free photography is allowed", where vaku is the flash.

Questions

Does Hungarian camera translation work offline?

Yes, and better with a connection. The phone reads Hungarian on its own; the online reader is more accurate, so SofiLingo uses it when there is a signal and the phone when there is not.

Does typed Hungarian translation work offline?

Yes. Download the Hungarian pack once, over wifi, and typing runs entirely on the phone from then on. That is true of all 58 languages.

How good is the Hungarian translation?

Good enough for menus, signs and tickets, and not for anything that matters legally or medically. The two examples on this page are unedited, mistakes included, so you can judge it yourself before you pay anything.

Can SofiLingo hear spoken Hungarian?

It depends on your iPhone. Spoken translation uses Apple’s own speech packs, which cover about half of the 58 languages and differ from phone to phone, so the app tells you before you start if it cannot hear Hungarian.
