Galician

Translate Galician, with no signal at all.

Typed Galician translation and the camera both run on your iPhone, so a menu or a sign in Galician can be read in flight mode. Below are two real ones, printed, photographed and translated by the app, and left unedited.

Typing works with no signal

Download the Galician pack once, over hotel wifi, and typed translation runs on the phone from then on — as it does in all 58 languages.

The camera reads it on the phone

Your iPhone reads Galician from a photograph itself. Nothing is sent anywhere, and it works with the phone in flight mode.

Speech depends on your iPhone

Spoken translation uses Apple's own speech packs, which cover about half of these languages and differ from phone to phone — so the app tells you if it cannot hear Galician rather than failing while someone waits. How speech works.

Two real ones, printed and photographed

Both went through the app on an iPhone from pages we had printed, so the Galician is known rather than guessed. What came back is below it, unedited.

A warning notice

Printed on it

  1. Perigo
  2. Non toque os cables
  3. Manteña os nenos afastados
  4. Chame ao encargado en caso de emerxencia

What the app gave back

  1. Danger
  2. Don't touch the cables
  3. Keep children away
  4. Call the person in charge in case of
  5. emergency

Read and translated on an iPhone, 1 September 2026, from a page we had printed — so the original is known rather than guessed. Nothing here is tidied up.

Everything came through. "Chame ao encargado" became "Call the person in charge", with "emergency" pushed onto a line of its own, but the meaning is intact.

A railway station sign

Printed on it

  1. Estación Central
  2. Andén 3
  3. Trens ao aeroporto
  4. Compre o seu billete antes de subir
  5. Saída á dereita

What the app gave back

  1. Central station
  2. Andén 3
  3. Trains to the airport
  4. Buy your ticket before uploading
  5. Exit to the right

Read and translated on an iPhone, 1 September 2026, from a page we had printed — so the original is known rather than guessed. Nothing here is tidied up.

Mostly right, but "Andén 3" was left untranslated rather than becoming Platform 3, though the number survives. "Compre o seu billete antes de subir" became "Buy your ticket before uploading", which is odd but readable.

What works offline in all 58 languages.

Questions

Does Galician camera translation work offline?

Yes. Your iPhone reads Galician from a photograph itself, so a scan works in flight mode and nothing is sent anywhere.

Does typed Galician translation work offline?

Yes. Download the Galician pack once, over wifi, and typing runs entirely on the phone from then on. That is true of all 58 languages.

How good is the Galician translation?

Good enough for menus, signs and tickets, and not for anything that matters legally or medically. The two examples on this page are unedited, mistakes included, so you can judge it yourself before you pay anything.

Can SofiLingo hear spoken Galician?

It depends on your iPhone. Spoken translation uses Apple’s own speech packs, which cover about half of the 58 languages and differ from phone to phone, so the app tells you before you start if it cannot hear Galician.
