Croatian

Translate Croatian, with no signal at all.

Typed Croatian translation and the camera both run on your iPhone, so a menu or a sign in Croatian can be read in flight mode. Below are two real ones, printed, photographed and translated by the app, and left unedited.

Typing works with no signal

Download the Croatian pack once, over hotel wifi, and typed translation runs on the phone from then on — as it does in all 58 languages.

The camera reads it on the phone

Your iPhone reads Croatian from a photograph itself. Nothing is sent anywhere, and it works with the phone in flight mode.

Speech depends on your iPhone

Spoken translation uses Apple's own speech packs, which cover about half of these languages and differ from phone to phone — so the app tells you if it cannot hear Croatian rather than failing while someone waits. How speech works.

Two real ones, printed and photographed

Both went through the app on an iPhone from pages we had printed, so the Croatian is known rather than guessed. What came back is below it, unedited.

A railway station sign

Printed on it

  1. Glavni kolodvor
  2. Peron 3
  3. Vlakovi za zračnu luku
  4. Kupite kartu prije ulaska
  5. Izlaz desno

What the app gave back

  1. Main station
  2. Platform 3
  3. Trains for the airport
  4. Buy a ticket before entering
  5. Exit right

Read and translated on an iPhone, 1 September 2026, from a page we had printed — so the original is known rather than guessed. Nothing here is tidied up.

Every line is right, with "Peron 3" as "Platform 3" and "Izlaz desno" as "Exit right". "Buy a ticket before entering" is a little off the usual wording but clear.

A pharmacy label

Printed on it

  1. Uzmite jednu tabletu dva puta dnevno
  2. Progutajte s vodom nakon jela
  3. Tijekom liječenja ne pijte alkohol
  4. Čuvati na hladnom i suhom mjestu
  5. Pitajte liječnika ako bol ne prestaje

What the app gave back

  1. Get one tablet twice a day
  2. Swallow with water after eating during treatment Do not drink alcohol to keep in a cool and dry place Ask a doctor if the pain stops

Read and translated on an iPhone, 1 September 2026, from a page we had printed — so the original is known rather than guessed. Nothing here is tidied up.

And this is the bad one. The last four lines were read as one and the translation ran them together, and "Pitajte liječnika ako bol ne prestaje" came back as "Ask a doctor if the pain stops", the opposite of what it says. The alcohol warning also ran into the storage line as "Do not drink alcohol to keep in a cool and dry place".

Questions

Does Croatian camera translation work offline?

Yes. Your iPhone reads Croatian from a photograph itself, so a scan works in flight mode and nothing is sent anywhere.

Does typed Croatian translation work offline?

Yes. Download the Croatian pack once, over wifi, and typing runs entirely on the phone from then on. That is true of all 58 languages.

How good is the Croatian translation?

Good enough for menus, signs and tickets, and not for anything that matters legally or medically. The two examples on this page are unedited, mistakes included, so you can judge it yourself before you pay anything.

Can SofiLingo hear spoken Croatian?

It depends on your iPhone. Spoken translation uses Apple’s own speech packs, which cover about half of the 58 languages and differ from phone to phone, so the app tells you before you start if it cannot hear Croatian.
